Contract Type: 3-6 Month Fixed Term Contract

Salary: £40,000 per annum (pro rata)

Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

About the school: A well-established independent special school in Essex supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs. The school provides a nurturing setting focused on care, safety and wellbeing.

About the role: The caretaker will ensure the school buildings and grounds are well-maintained, secure and compliant with health and safety standards. Duties include routine maintenance, managing contractors, site security, and supporting daily operations.

We’re looking for a dedicated candidate to:

  • Carry out general repairs, maintenance and minor improvements
  • Ensure the premises are clean, safe and secure at all times
  • Conduct regular health and safety checks
  • Oversee site access, deliveries and contractors
  • Support with setting up rooms and site operations

Requirements – The ideal candidate would have:

  • Previous experience as a caretaker or site manager (preferably in a school)
  • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures
  • Practical maintenance and DIY skills
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply
