Specialist SEND School – Minimum One-Month Placement – Likely Extension
Are you a Primary Teacher passionate about making literacy accessible to learners with Autism and complex needs?
Can you bring phonics, stories and nursery rhymes to life through creative, personalised teaching?
Are you looking for an SEN English Teacher role where small steps in learning can make a meaningful difference?
A specialist SEND school is recruiting an SEN English Teacher to support children and young people aged 8-18. This role would particularly suit a teacher with Primary QTS, a strong understanding of SEND and a commitment to inclusive education.
The Role – SEN English Teacher
As an SEN English Teacher, you will teach pupils whose learning is broadly within the Reception to Year 3 range, adapting delivery to their individual communication, developmental and sensory needs.
Although pupils are older, aspects of teaching will draw on EYFS approaches, including repetition, play, songs and practical activities. Resources should reflect pupils’ interests and respect their chronological age while making learning accessible.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering differentiated English and early literacy lessons
- Developing phonics, early reading and communication skills
- Using stories, nursery rhymes, visuals and practical resources to engage learners
- Breaking learning into manageable steps with opportunities to revisit skills
- Adapting teaching for ASD and other complex SEND
- Working closely with support staff to encourage participation and independence
- Recognising individual achievements and using assessment to guide next steps
The successful SEN English Teacher will understand that communication, engagement and emotional readiness are central to learning.
What’s on Offer
- An SEN English Teacher placement lasting at least one month
- Likely extension, depending on the school’s requirements
- Opportunities to deliver creative, personalised literacy teaching
- Primary QTS particularly suited to this role
- Strong understanding of SEND education, especially ASD and complex needs
