A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an inspirational and dedicated MLD Centre Teacher to lead a thriving specialist provision for pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD). This role is ideal for a teacher who is passionate about SEND, committed to inclusive practice, and eager to make a meaningful difference in pupils' lives.

About the Role

The successful candidate will take on a dual role as both MLD Centre Manager and Class Teacher, ensuring high-quality provision, strong leadership, and personalised teaching for pupils with a range of learning and communication needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the SENCO to maintain high-quality teaching, support, and resources.
  • Embed trust-wide policies and best practice within the specialist centre.
  • Lead team meetings, encourage collaboration, and support staff wellbeing.
  • Use assessment systems to track academic and holistic progress and report to senior leaders.
  • Liaise with Local Authority SEN caseworkers on admissions, consultations, funding, and placements.
  • Plan and manage inclusion timetables to ensure smooth transitions with mainstream classes.
  • Advocate for pupils with MLD and ensure full participation in whole-school events.
  • Oversee new pupil intake and support transitions to secondary or alternative settings.

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver adaptive, high-quality teaching tailored to pupils' sensory, communication, and learning needs.
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work with teaching assistants, therapists, and external specialists to implement EHCP targets.
  • Provide a personalised curriculum with supported access to mainstream learning.
  • Adapt the national curriculum to individual needs, focusing on communication, independence, and language enrichment.
  • Support sensory needs with guidance from occupational therapists.
  • Teach social, play, and leisure skills effectively.
  • Prepare pupils for secondary education through life-skills and independence development.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with parents and carers.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience or strong interest in: SEND pedagogy and inclusive teaching | Working with pupils with moderate learning difficulties and social communication needs
  • A patient, resilient, and creative approach to behaviour and classroom management
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Enhanced DBS (on the update service or willingness to obtain one)
