QTS Tutor SEN & Core Subjects (Skelmersdale, January 2026)

Pay rate: From £30 per hour (dependent on experience)

Job type: Temporary / Contract

Hours: Part-time up to 20 hours per week

ABOUT THE ROLE

Prospero Teaching is seeking a qualified teacher (QTS) to work as an SEN Tutor delivering targeted intervention in core subjects, primarily GCSE Maths and English, to students in Skelmersdale starting January 2026. This role focuses on supporting learners with complex Special Educational Needs, including Autism, ADHD, and SEMH, many of whom are working below age-related expectations or are not currently accessing mainstream education. You will deliver highly personalised 1:1 sessions designed to close learning gaps, rebuild confidence, and support long-term progress. We recognise that every learner's journey is different, which is why this role offers flexible working hours alongside the opportunity to make a genuine and lasting impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver one-to-one Maths and English tuition tailored to individual SEN learning profiles
  • Adapt lesson structure, content, and pace to support engagement and emotional regulation
  • Support students in developing subject knowledge, study skills, and exam confidence
  • Build consistent, trusting relationships to create a safe and supportive learning environment
  • Monitor progress and provide clear, professional feedback to parents/carers and other professionals

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience teaching Maths and/or English
  • Experience working with learners with SEN in a 1:1 or small-group setting
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS on the Child Bar List (or willingness to obtain one)

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • PGCE in Secondary Education
  • Experience supporting students with Autism, ADHD, or SEMH needs
