Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Fawley, Hampshire, supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children in educational or care settings, or with transferable skills such as youth work, coaching, or mentoring.

This provision caters to Key Stage 2 pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education or are at risk of exclusion due to SEMH challenges. Many students have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require consistent emotional, behavioural, and academic support to thrive in a structured environment.

Contract/Position Details:

  • Location: Fawley, Hampshire
  • Type of work: 1:1 and small group support in classroom and intervention settings
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Duration: Temp to Perm (long-term opportunity)
  • Contract type: Full-time, Term time only
  • Daily rate: £104.70 per day
  • Working hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting children with SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies and personalised learning plans
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Supporting class teachers in delivering engaging, accessible lessons
  • Contributing to a safe, nurturing learning environment
  • Liaising with external agencies and school staff to monitor progress
  • Promoting pupil independence, self-regulation, and emotional wellbeing

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience
  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) - preferred
  • Team Teach or similar positive handling training - desirable
  • English and Maths GCSE (Grade C/4 or above)

  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Enhanced child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
  • Two professional references covering the last two years
  • Completion of safeguarding and vetting checks
