A specialist SEMH school in Preston is recruiting a Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged pupils with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can combine firm boundaries and confident behaviour management with patience, empathy, and consistency.
As a Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may have SEMH, ADHD, Autism, attachment difficulties, trauma-related needs, and associated behavioural challenges. Your role will focus on identifying the triggers behind behaviour and intervening positively before situations escalate. Working alongside teachers and pastoral professionals, you will:
- Provide targeted 1:1 behaviour interventions and mentoring
- Support pupils experiencing emotional dysregulation
- Use effective de-escalation and behaviour management strategies
- Help pupils recognise triggers and develop healthier coping mechanisms
- Reinforce clear expectations, routines, and boundaries
- Support pupils to successfully return to learning following incidents
- Build trusting relationships with young people who may have struggled within mainstream education
