Rate of Pay: £105.00 - £115.00 per day

About the School:

We are working closely with a specialist school in Preston that supports children and young people with complex emotional, social and behavioural needs. The school provides a structured, nurturing and therapeutic environment, placing a strong emphasis on consistency, trust and positive relationships.

This role is ideal for a calm, resilient and compassionate practitioner who is passionate about supporting a vulnerable child on a 1:1 basis, helping them feel safe, regulated and ready to engage with learning.

The Role:

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a vulnerable pupil who requires consistent emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day. You will play a key role in helping them manage their emotions, behaviour and engagement, both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a child with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship to help the pupil feel safe, understood and supported.
  • Support emotional regulation using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
  • Implement behaviour strategies, including de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
  • Support the pupil during lessons, transitions and unstructured times.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff and external professionals to follow an individual support plan.
  • Promote independence, confidence, social skills and positive decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with vulnerable children or young people with challenging behaviour.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach, especially in emotionally demanding situations.
  • An understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed practice.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A positive, team-focused attitude and commitment to safeguarding.

To Be Eligible You Must:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one.
  • Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years.
