Religious Studies Teacher

Prospero Teaching is working with a secondary school in the Portsmouth area to recruit a qualified and enthusiastic Religious Studies Teacher (QTS) for an immediate start.

This is a full‑time teaching role initially running for six weeks, with the potential for the placement to be extended for the right candidate. The successful teacher will take full responsibility for the Religious Studies timetable, including planning, preparation, marking, and assessment.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Religious Studies Teacher or a confident ECT who is passionate about delivering engaging lessons and helping students develop critical thinking, cultural awareness, and an understanding of different beliefs and perspectives.

The Role:

  • Teach Religious Studies across KS3 and KS4
  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons
  • Take full responsibility for planning, marking, and assessment
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and engagement
  • Contribute to departmental planning and school life where required
  • Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently

Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong subject knowledge in Religious Studies
  • Experience teaching within a secondary school setting
  • Confident planning and delivering high‑quality lessons
  • Effective classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Strong communication and organisational abilities
  • Committed to supporting student achievement and progress
  • Suitable for experienced teachers and ECTs

Contract Details:

  • Position: Religious Studies Teacher (QTS)
  • Location: Portsmouth
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Working Pattern: Full‑time
  • Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm (Tuesday 8:30am - 4:00pm)
  • Contract Length: Ongoing for 6 weeks with potential to extend
  • Pay Rate: £140 - £155 per day
  • Key Stages: KS3 & KS4

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

  • QTS required
  • Secondary teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching Religious Studies desirable
  • Safeguarding training can be provided
