We're working with a supportive and inclusive secondary school that places student welfare at the heart of everything it does. The school is committed to providing strong pastoral care, early intervention, and consistent behaviour support to help students overcome barriers to learning and succeed both academically and emotionally. The pastoral team works closely with teaching staff, senior leaders, families, and external agencies to ensure every student receives the care, guidance, and structure they need to thrive.

As a Pastoral Officer, you will:

  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students, addressing wellbeing, bullying, and safeguarding concerns
  • Monitor behaviour, implement individual behaviour plans, and use de-escalation strategies effectively
  • Track attendance, investigate persistent absence or lateness, and support attendance improvement strategies
  • Liaise with parents, carers, school staff, and external professionals including social services and health agencies
  • Deliver targeted interventions, mentoring, and small group support for students with specific barriers to learning
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records using systems such as SIMS and contribute to pastoral reporting

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with complex, behavioural, or emotional needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, and professionals
  • A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach with the ability to work independently
  • Training in counselling, mentoring, youth work, or mental health first aid (desirable but not essential)

To be eligible you must:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the update service OR be willing to apply for a new one
  • Provide two professional child-related references
