Prospero Teaching is working in partnership with local councils, SEND services, and education providers across North Shields and the wider Tyne and Wear area to deliver high-quality, tailored one-to-one and small group Functional Skills support. We are currently looking for experienced Functional Skills Tutors to teach English and Maths at Entry Level 3, Level 1, and Level 2.

About the Role

We are seeking dedicated and passionate Functional Skills Tutors based in North Shields to work with young people who are currently not in full-time education. Tutoring sessions are delivered face-to-face, typically within community venues, alternative provision settings, or in the learners' home environment. Each programme is bespoke to meet the learners' specific needs, helping them build confidence and achieve their Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications.

Position Details:

  • Pay rate up to GBP30 per hour depending on qualification and/or experience
  • Up to 15 hours per week per student
  • Start date: November
  • Location: North Shields
  • Duration: ongoing
  • Access to our Resource Hub, which includes learning materials
  • Access to CPD accredited courses and training

Your role with us:

  • Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition in Functional Skills Maths and/or English
  • Develop and implement personalised lesson plans that address individual learning gaps.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular, constructive feedback to students and their families.
  • Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to help students re-build their confidence in learning.
  • Complete daily attendance and weekly reports.

To be eligible for this role, the potential Functional Skills Tutors must:

  • Have previous experience with functional skills
  • Hold the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
