Prospero Teaching is looking for passionate and proactive Teaching Assistants to support the learning of pupils in one of our inspirational SEN Schools near Newcastle to start ASAP on a full-time or part-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to build positive relationships with pupils and have a long-term, positive impact on their progress and development inside and outside the classroom.

About the School:

The role is based in an inspirational SEN School near Newcastle. The school supports pupils aged 5-16 and has an outstanding supportive environment and Leadership Team. Staff cohesion is pivotal, allowing them to work as a team within classrooms to provide the highest possible standard of support to pupils.

Responsibilities:

  • The role will involve supporting pupils with varied SEN and challenging behaviour on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • There are roles available to support pupils across this age-range depending on the preference, experience and skill set of the successful candidate.
  • Some pupils may be non-verbal and some may require personal care, so a willingness to support pupils in these contexts is key.
  • A key part of the role will be to develop an understanding of the different needs and learning styles of different pupils within the classroom, working closely alongside Class Teachers and colleagues to establish this.

Experience/Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Supporting Teaching and Learning or Childcare-based Qualification (desired)
  • BSL Level 1 qualification is a must
  • Experience of working with children in schools in the UK
  • An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff
  • A resilient, proactive, and positive nature
  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional child-related references that cover the last two years

About the role:

  • Location: Newcastle
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract: Temporary contract until Christmas that has the opportunity to be long term.
  • Hours: 8:30-3:30
  • Pay: £440-£600 per week
