Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, but looking for a setting that takes a genuinely nurturing approach to specialist education?

Are you a Psychology graduate hoping to gain exceptional frontline experience before progressing into Educational or Clinical Psychology, Therapy, Mental Health, or another clinical career?

A unique secondary SEMH specialist school in Freckleton is expanding its provision from September and is seeking several dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to join its close-knit team.

A Different Approach to SEMH Education

This is not a typical SEMH environment. The school places a strong emphasis on nurture and the personal, social, emotional, and academic development of every pupil. Instances of serious challenging behaviour are extremely limited. Instead, staff are trained to take a holistic and preventative approach, recognising the reasons behind behaviour and helping pupils develop strategies to manage their emotions when they become dysregulated.

At the heart of the school is an inspirational and forward-thinking Headteacher, supported by a strong and close-knit SLT. Their person-centred approach creates an environment where pupils feel understood, valued, and supported to succeed.

The Role - SEMH Teaching Assistant

Education extends well beyond the traditional classroom. The school has its own on-site farm, with pupils developing practical skills through activities including animal care, gardening, outdoor learning, and vocational experiences. You will support pupils during these activities as well as in lessons, helping them develop confidence, emotional regulation, independence, and positive relationships.

Psychology Graduates strongly encouraged to apply.

What's on Offer

  • Up to £600 per week
  • Full-time, long-term roles from September
  • Multiple vacancies available due to school expansion
  • Exceptional SEMH and emotional-regulation training
  • Hands-on and outdoor learning opportunities
  • Support from an experienced, nurturing leadership team
  • Fantastic experience for future careers in psychology, therapy, mental health, or SEN education

For the right candidate, this SEMH Teaching Assistant role offers far more than classroom experience. You will learn from an inspirational leadership team while developing a sophisticated understanding of emotional regulation, behaviour, trauma-informed support, and child development.
