Job Type: Temporary | Part-Time | Term-Time Role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Specialist Tutor to provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged students (KS3/KS4) across Harrow. Many of the students supported have Autism (ASD) and additional needs, and require tailored academic, social, and emotional support to help them engage positively with learning.

This role is well suited to a tutor who adopts a calm, structured, and student-centred approach, and who can work collaboratively with families, schools, and external professionals to support young people's progress and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, personalised sessions in literacy and numeracy, adapted to students' age, ability, and learning needs.
  • Support the development of communication, social skills, and emotional regulation using evidence-based SEN strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour, confidence, and independence in line with students' individual needs and EHCP targets.
  • Adapt teaching approaches and resources in line with the student's needs.
  • Support students' engagement with education, including preparation for examinations, functional skills, or alternative pathways where appropriate.
  • Work closely with parents/carers, schools, and other professionals to ensure a consistent and holistic approach.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to regular feedback and reporting.

Requirements:

  • 6 months experience working with secondary-aged students with SEN, including ASD and SEMH needs.
  • Strong understanding of the KS3/KS4 curriculum and differentiated teaching strategies.
  • Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people using age-appropriate and respectful approaches.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable:

  • Background in SEN education, alternative provision, or youth work.
  • Knowledge of autism-specific and SEMH strategies (e.g. visual supports, Zones of Regulation, executive functioning tools).
  • Experience supporting learners with anxiety, emotional regulation, or social communication needs.
  • Relevant teaching or SEN qualifications (e.g. QTS, PGCE, Level 3+ SEN, or SaLT assistant experience).

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated SEN tutor to make a meaningful impact across a range of secondary learners, supporting both their academic progress and personal development. Prospero Teaching is acting as an education recruitment agency for this role. All applicants must pass safeguarding and vetting procedures prior to starting. Supporting the welfare and development of young people is at the heart of what we do.
