Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) – York Area: York, North Yorkshire

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Full‑time, Long‑term

Rate: £90‑£120 per day (dependent on experience and responsibilities)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am‑4:15pm

About the School

We are working with a welcoming and inclusive school in York that is committed to ensuring every child can access high‑quality education, including those with additional needs. The school supports pupils with a range of SEN – including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs – within a mainstream classroom environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils one‑on‑one or in small groups within the mainstream classroom.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using school‑wide strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the SENCO to adapt lessons and ensure inclusive practice.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement in pupils with additional needs.
  • Provide classroom support to help create a calm, structured learning environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with SEN in a mainstream or similar setting.
  • A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach to working with pupils who may need additional support.
  • A strong understanding of inclusive practice within mainstream education.
  • Adaptability and confidence when supporting pupils with varying needs.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).

Eligibility

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK.
  • Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service or be willing to apply as one.
  • Provide two child‑related professional references.
