Are you passionate about inspiring young people through practical learning? Prospero Teaching is recruiting on behalf of a specialist Alternative-Provision Secondary school in Solihull for an enthusiastic and committed Vocations Instructor to join their dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for both qualified teachers (QTS) and non-qualified professionals with industry experience who are looking to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people.

We Would Love to Hear From You If You Are:

  • A qualified teacher (QTS) with experience in vocational or practical subjects.
  • A Cover Supervisor with a degree in Construction, Art, Design, Design Technology or a related discipline.
  • An experienced Construction Instructor, Design Technology Instructor, or Practical Vocations Tutor looking to move into a specialist education setting.
  • A skilled tradesperson or vocational professional with experience mentoring or training young people.

You will deliver engaging, practical and vocational learning to small classes of secondary-aged pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Many pupils have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and/or Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The curriculum is tailored to meet each learner's individual strengths and interests, providing practical opportunities that help pupils re-engage with education and prepare for adulthood.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience teaching or delivering practical vocational subjects.
  • A background in Construction, Design Technology, Art, Engineering, or another practical discipline.
  • A passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to engage and motivate pupils who may have experienced trauma or struggled in mainstream education.
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
  • Teaching qualifications are welcomed but not essential.

The school values practical experience, industry knowledge and the ability to inspire young people through hands-on learning. The school believes that many children who have experienced trauma, adversity or barriers associated with disability learn best through practical, purposeful experiences. Their vocational pathways are designed to build confidence, resilience, life skills and future career opportunities in an environment where every pupil feels valued and supported.

This is a rewarding opportunity to become part of a dedicated team that is passionate about transforming lives through education.
