A welcoming, child-centred Primary Inclusion Centre in Portsmouth is looking for a compassionate and resilient SEN / SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor to join their team as soon as possible. The centre supports primary-aged pupils who present with social, emotional and mental health needs, anxiety, and barriers to learning within mainstream settings. This is a role where you become a consistent, trusted adult for children who need stability, patience, and understanding. Your presence helps them feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting primary pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety and behavioural challenges
  • Using trauma-informed, child-centred approaches
  • Helping children regulate emotions and develop confidence
  • Encouraging engagement in learning through patience and consistency
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the inclusion team

  • A warm, empathetic and flexible approach
  • Experience supporting children with SEN, SEMH or communication needs (advantageous)
  • Strong relationship-building and behaviour-support skills
  • A genuine commitment to helping children succeed - even on their toughest days

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
  • References covering the last 24 months
