Prospero Teaching is seeking a compassionate, patient, and adaptable Tutor to provide 1:1 home tuition for a Key Stage 4 student in the Gosport area. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support a young person who is currently disengaged from mainstream education and requires a bespoke, nurturing approach to learning.

Student Profile: The student is of secondary age and currently working below expected levels due to a range of social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. They find the traditional classroom environment overwhelming and benefit from a calm, consistent, and supportive setting. The ideal tutor will help the student re‑engage with learning, build confidence, and make steady academic progress—particularly in core subjects such as English and Maths.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured, 1:1 tuition in a quiet and emotionally safe environment (typically the student's home)
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship to foster engagement and motivation
  • Tailor sessions to the student's current working level and learning style
  • Use creative, flexible strategies to overcome barriers to learning
  • Support the development of self‑esteem, resilience, and independent learning skills
  • Track progress and adapt your approach in response to the student's evolving needs

About You:

  • Experience working with KS3/KS4 learners, ideally in alternative or SEN settings
  • Confident supporting students with SEMH needs or those who are school‑refusing
  • Calm, empathetic, and consistent in your approach
  • Able to plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons across multiple subjects
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills
  • Available to deliver sessions on Mondays and Fridays (afternoons ideally)

Role Details:

  • Position: 1:1 Home Tutor (KS4)
  • Location: Gosport
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Duration: Ongoing
  • Hours: 4 per week (2 hours on a Monday and 2 hours on a Friday)
  • Focus: English and Maths

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with young people
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
  • Up‑to‑date Safeguarding Training (or willingness to complete)

If this particular role is of interest, please reach out today with an up-to-date copy of your CV. Please note, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
