Job description

Prospero Teaching are looking for a compassionate, positive, and adaptable Tutor to support a young person in Portsmouth who is preparing for their GCSEs in Maths and English . This young learner experiences communication challenges and has SEMH needs , particularly around anxiety . They’ve asked for someone who can bring warmth, patience, and encouragement to their learning journey.

About the Role

  • Location: Portsmouth
  • Subjects: GCSE Maths (2 hours per week) and English (2 hours per week)- Total of 4 hours per week
  • Schedule: Flexible – tuition can take place at various times throughout the day
  • Delivery: 1:1 sessions, tailored to the learner’s pace and emotional needs
  • As a n GCSE Tutor you will:

  • Deliver high-quality Maths and English tuition adapted to individual needs Use creative and therapeutic approaches to engage learners Monitor progress and provide regular feedback Support emotional well being and resilience through positive relationships
  • About you:

  • A minimum of 1 year’s experience working in UK schools or tutoring GCSE-level students Experience or understanding of SEMH and communication needs A gentle and encouraging approach to teaching Ability to adapt lessons to suit the learner’s emotional and academic needs Someone who values relationship-building and can create a safe, trusting learning environment

    Essential & Desirable Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working within UK schools- ESSENTIAL Knowledge of safeguarding and SEND frameworks Experience of working with learners with SEMH needs Experience of supporting learners with Maths and English GCSE
  • To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:

  • Hold right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide references upon request
  • Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
