ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Prospero Teaching is seeking an experienced Outreach Tutor to deliver tailored education packages to children and young people in the Gateshead area. These learners are not currently attending school and may have significant additional needs, including SEND, SEMH and challenging behaviour. The role involves working in the community or within the students' home, providing one-to-one lessons focused on core subjects such as Maths and English, as well as supporting with life skills and personal development.
As an Outreach Tutor, you will plan, create, and deliver highly personalised lessons designed to build confidence, engagement, and academic progress. You will play a key role in reintroducing structure into the students' day, while also supporting both academic development and life skills. A strong commitment to inclusive education is essential, and experience with communication systems such as Makaton and PECS would be highly beneficial.
CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS
- Location: Within the community or students' homes in Gateshead
- Position: Outreach Tutor (Complex Needs)
- Type of work: Part-time, approximately 15-25 hours per week
- Minimum pay rate: GBP25 per hour
- Hours: Sessions typically 1 to 3 hours long
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS
- QTS, QTLS, PGCE, EYFS, or equivalent qualifications
- Minimum 6 months experience working in a UK school or with SEN learners
- Experience with Makaton and/or PECS (highly desirable)
- Up-to-date Safeguarding training issued within the last year (desirable but not essential)
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:
- Hold the right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years
