Join a team making a real difference in young people’s lives. Prospero Teaching is working closely with local councils, SEND services, and education providers across Newcastle to deliver tailored, one-to-one and small group Functional Skills support. We’re currently recruiting experienced Tutors to teach Maths, English, and PSHE at Entry Level 3, Level 1, and Level 2.

We are seeking dedicated Functional Skills Tutors in the Newcastle area to work with students who aren't currently in full-time education. These learners may be facing emotional or behavioural challenges, so we are looking for Tutors who are calm, adaptable, and committed to helping them re-engage with learning in a positive way.

Sessions are delivered in person – this could be in a local community space, an alternative provision setting, or sometimes within the student's home environment.

Position Details:

  • Pay rate up to GBP30 per hour depending on qualification and/or experience
  • Up to 15 hours per week per student
  • Start date: September 2025
  • Location: Newcastle
  • Duration: ongoing
  • Access to our Resource Hub, which includes learning materials
  • Access to CPD accredited courses and training

Your role with us:

  • Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition in Functional Skills Maths and/or English
  • Develop and implement personalised lesson plans that address individual learning gaps.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular, constructive feedback to students and their families.
  • Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to help students re-build their confidence in learning.
  • Complete daily attendance and weekly reports.

To be eligible for this role, the potential Functional Skills Tutors must:

  • Have previous experience with functional skills
  • Hold the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
