Job description
Prospero Teaching is currently recruiting for a dedicated and adaptable teacher to join a specialist alternative provision within a Southsea-based secondary school. This full-time supply role offers the opportunity to deliver functional English, Maths, and Science to KS3 and KS4 students who benefit from a tailored and supportive learning environment.
About the Role:
As an Alternative Provision Teacher, you’ll be part of a committed team focused on helping young people re-engage with education. You’ll deliver structured, accessible lessons that build essential skills, confidence, and independence-while adapting your approach to meet a range of learning needs.
This position is initially offered on a supply basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. Should the role become permanent, the pay rate would be adjusted in line with the national teacher pay scale.
Y our Responsibilities Will Include:
Planning and delivering functional English, Maths, and Science lessons for KS3/KS4 students
Creating a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
Supporting students with SEMH, autism, ADHD, and other additional needs
Working collaboratively with support staff, families, and external agencies
Monitoring progress and contributing to individual learning plans
Promoting positive behaviour and emotional well-being
Encouraging resilience, self-esteem, and personal growth
What We’re Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Experience teaching in alternative provision, SEN, or mainstream settings
Strong understanding of functional skills and differentiated teaching strategies
A calm, patient, and flexible approach to behaviour and engagement
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
Willingness to take part in ongoing professional development
Eligibility Requirements:
Right to work in the UK
Enhanced child barred list DBS certificate (or willingness to apply)
References available upon request
Up-to-date safeguarding training (or willingness to complete)
