Prospero Teaching works with local councils, SEND services, and education providers to deliver high‑quality one‑to‑one and small‑group functional skills support. We are looking for experienced tutors to teach English and Maths at Level 1 and Level 2.

About the Role

We are seeking dedicated and passionate tutors based in Hartlepool to work with young people who are not in full‑time education. Sessions are delivered face‑to‑face in community venues, alternative provision settings, or learners' homes. Each programme is bespoke to meet the learners’ specific needs, helping them build confidence and achieve their functional skills qualifications.

Position Details

  • Pay: up to £30 per hour, depending on qualification and/or experience
  • Up to 15 hours per week per student
  • Start date: September 2026
  • Location: Hartlepool
  • Duration: ongoing
  • Access to our Resource Hub, including learning materials
  • Access to CPD accredited courses and training

Your Role

  • Deliver one‑to‑one or small‑group tuition in functional skills maths and/or English
  • Develop and implement personalised lesson plans that address individual learning gaps
  • Monitor students’ progress and provide regular, constructive feedback to students and their families
  • Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to help students rebuild their confidence in learning
  • Complete daily attendance and weekly reports

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Previous experience with functional skills
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced child barred list DBS certificate, registered with the online update service, or willingness to apply for one
  • Reference for the last two years of education/employment
