Prospero Teaching are working with a SEN school in Ellesmere Port that supports students with additional needs, mental health issues and learning difficulties. The pupils may have experienced trauma, neglect or chaotic home lives. The role is to build connections with the young people and act as a mentor and role model. The school supports secondary-age pupils with a range of needs and behaviours, including SEMH and PRU backgrounds. The role involves mentoring, engagement support, and strong relationship-building with pupils to help them participate in school activity. The position is open to all experienced candidates with a strong mentoring background working with children and young people. Depending on performance, there may be an extension or a permanent offer.
Responsibilities
- Support pupils in and out of the classroom on a vocational basis.
- Use mentoring skills (similar to those used in sport, drama, counselling) to help individuals engage with learning and the school environment.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a mentor and role model.
- Work within the secondary site with ages 7 to 16 years.
Contract/Location Details
- Location: Ellesmere Port
- Position: Teaching Assistant
- Contract type: Temporary to Permanent (start February 2026)
- Hours: Full-time, term time only
- Hours per day: 08:30 – 15:30
- Duration: Full academic year (with possible extension)
- Minimum pay: £95 per day
Experience, Training and Qualifications
- Previous experience in SEMH/PRU settings or similar mentoring environments.
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant (or equivalent) or above is preferable.
- GCSE Maths and English; computer literate.
Eligibility and Safeguarding
- Hold Right to Work in the UK.
- Hold an enhanced DBS certificate with online update service or be willing to process a new application.
- Provide two professional child-related references covering at least the last two years.
