Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Educational Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a primary-aged pupil at our partner autism specialist school in Lyndhurst, Hampshire.

About the Role

  • As a 1:1 Educational Assistant, you will work closely with primary-aged pupils, offering consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.
  • Building a positive, trusting relationship that helps the pupil feel safe, understood, and confident.
  • Supporting the pupil's emotional regulation, communication, and engagement in learning.
  • Breaking down tasks, offering reassurance, and encouraging independence at a pace that suits the pupil.
  • Using proactive, autism-informed and trauma-aware strategies to help the pupil navigate challenges.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, therapists, and external professionals to ensure the pupil receives well-rounded support.
  • Helping the pupil develop social communication skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging within the school community.

What We’re Looking For

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with young children.
  • GCSE English & Maths (grade C/level 4 or above).
  • Experience supporting children with autism or additional needs is highly desirable.
  • An understanding that behaviour is a form of communication and a commitment to positive, relationship-based support.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and a proactive mindset.
  • Experience in education, youth work, care, or similar settings is beneficial, though passion and commitment are equally valued.

Role Details

  • Hours: Mon-Tue: 08:30-16:30, Wed-Thu: 08:30-16:00, Fri: 08:30-15:00
  • Contract: Term-time only / Temp-to-Perm
  • Pay: From £14 per hour
  • Location: Lyndhurst, Hampshire

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced Child Barred List DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • References covering the last 24 months
