As an English Tutor, you must be able to create, plan and deliver 1:1 tailored lessons to bridge gaps in pupils’ education and boost engagement and attainment levels. Most of these pupils will have been out of education for some time, so their confidence levels are very low. It is your responsibility to reengage them in their learning and offer structure back into their daily routine. As well as teaching them in English, you will be required to teach new skills, implement strategies for work and break down tasks. These young people may be SEN students with developmental needs, so a tutor who is able to provide communication and language support is essential.

Prospero Teaching will work with you closely to monitor the progression with each pupil and support effective learning.

How to prepare for a job interview at Prospero Teaching

✨Know Your Stuff

Make sure you brush up on your English teaching methods and strategies. Familiarise yourself with the curriculum and be ready to discuss how you would tailor lessons for pupils who have been out of education for a while. This shows that you’re not just knowledgeable but also adaptable.

✨Show Empathy and Understanding

Since many of the students may have low confidence, it’s crucial to demonstrate your ability to connect with them. Prepare examples of how you've successfully re-engaged students in the past or how you plan to build their confidence. This will highlight your suitability for the role.

✨Prepare for Scenario Questions

Expect questions about how you would handle specific situations, especially with SEN students. Think of scenarios where you had to implement communication strategies or break down tasks for learners. Practising these responses can help you articulate your approach clearly during the interview.

✨Ask Insightful Questions

At the end of the interview, don’t forget to ask questions! Inquire about the support you'll receive from Prospero Teaching or how they measure pupil progress. This shows your genuine interest in the role and helps you understand if it's the right fit for you.
