Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated and qualified Maths and English Tutor to deliver bespoke 1:1 tuition to young people who are currently not attending school in the Barking and Dagenham area. As an Outreach Tutor, you will be responsible for planning and delivering tailored lessons that help close gaps in learning, rebuild confidence, and improve academic engagement. This is an ideal opportunity for a qualified teacher who is looking for a more flexible and rewarding role outside of the traditional classroom environment.

Many of the learners have experienced interruptions to their education and may have low self-esteem. You’ll play a key role in helping them regain confidence and structure in their daily learning. Prospero Teaching offers continuous support throughout your placement, including regular progress reviews to ensure each young person is receiving high-quality, effective support.

CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS

  • Location – Barking and Dagenham (and surrounding areas)
  • Position – Outreach Tutor (Maths & English)
  • Type of work – 1:1 Tuition / Outreach Support
  • Start date – ASAP
  • Duration / Likely Duration – Ongoing (dependent on student needs)
  • Contract type – Temporary
  • Hours – 10 to 15 hours per week (typically 1-3 hours per session)
  • Rate of pay – From £25 per hour

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must hold QTS or PGCE
  • Experience teaching Maths and English (KS2/KS3/KS4)
  • SEN or SEMH experience highly desirable
  • Minimum of 6 months teaching experience in the UK
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding training (can be provided if needed)

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

  • Have the Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an Enhanced Child Barred List DBS certificate (on the Update Service or willing to apply for one)
  • Provide two professional child-related references from the last two years
