Prospero Teaching is looking for an experienced SEMH/SEN Tutor to deliver targeted one-to-one and small group support to Key Stage 3 and 4 students in the Consett area. The learners are currently not attending full-time school due to Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
About the Role
We are currently seeking specialist Maths Tutors in the Consett area to support students who are not currently accessing mainstream education or who require additional support to engage with learning. We are looking for patient, adaptable, and empathetic tutors who can deliver engaging 1:1 Maths tuition while creating a safe and supportive learning environment. Successful tutors will be able to build positive relationships with students, tailor lessons to individual needs, and support learners in developing both their academic skills and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 SEN/SEMH tutoring sessions
- Plan and adapt lessons to bridge learning gaps and build core Maths
- Help to engage the student and assist with regulating their emotions in a positive way during the sessions
- Create a calm, safe, and encouraging learning environment
- Monitor and record progress, attendance, and engagement
- Provide regular feedback to parents, carers, and the Prospero Teaching team
Pay rate: up to £30 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Location: Consett

Requirements
- Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH or SEND needs (ideal for tutors with PRU or alternative provision backgrounds)
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced child workforce DBS certificate (on the update service or willing to apply)
- Two professional references covering the last two years
