Prospero Teaching is seeking a caring, committed Complex Needs Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive school environment in Basingstoke. This role involves working closely with pupils who have a range of complex learning, communication, medical, and developmental needs, providing them with structure, reassurance, and personalised day-to-day support. This position is ideal for someone with experience in SEND, care, support work, or those looking to make a meaningful impact within a specialist educational environment. The school is looking for individuals who are patient, resilient, and confident supporting pupils with high levels of need.
The Role:
- Provide daily 1:1 support for pupils with complex needs (ASD, PMLD, medical needs, physical needs, sensory needs, etc.)
- Support pupils' communication, engagement, and independence
- Assist with structured routines, sensory activities, and adapted learning tasks
- Use visual supports, communication aids, and personalised tools where required
- Provide emotional reassurance, consistency, and calm guidance
- Work alongside therapists, SENCOs, and specialist teaching staff
- Support with personal care where appropriate (training provided)
- Help maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning atmosphere
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience supporting children or adults with complex needs (school, care, residential, SEN, or therapy settings)
- Calm, patient, emotionally resilient, and able to remain positive under pressure
- Comfortable working closely with pupils who need high levels of support
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Compassionate, reliable, and committed to fostering pupil development
- Graduates with interest in SEND, psychology, education, or social care welcome
Contract Details:
- Position: Complex Needs Learning Support Assistant
- Location: Basingstoke
- Start Date: ASAP
- Hours: Full-term
- Pay: £14.66 - £15.66 per hour
- Duration: Long-term/temp
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
- Experience with complex needs preferred
- Manual handling, PECs, Makaton, or sensory training beneficial (not essential)
- Safeguarding training can be provided
Eligibility:
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS (update service) or willingness to apply
- Ability to provide two references
