Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to support post-16 learners in the Barking and Dagenham area on a part-time basis (10-15 hours per week). As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will deliver engaging and supportive lessons in English and/or Maths, working with learners from Entry Level 3 up to Level 2. Many learners may have additional needs, including SEN and SEMH, and may have experienced barriers to education. You will be responsible for planning and delivering tailored sessions that build confidence, develop core skills, and support learners in achieving their Functional Skills qualifications. This role is ideal for an experienced tutor or teacher looking to work flexibly and make a meaningful impact through small-group or 1:1 support. Prospero Teaching will work closely with you to monitor learner progress and provide ongoing support to ensure effective and positive outcomes.

  • Minimum rate of pay - £25 per hour
  • Hours - Flexible hours, typically 1-3 hours per session

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, PGCE or equivalent) or relevant Functional Skills teaching experience
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths (Entry Level 3 to Level 2)
  • Experience working with post-16 learners
  • SEN and/or SEMH experience desirable
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding training (desirable but not essential)

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service, or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional, child-related references covering the last two years
