Learning Support Assistant Specialist SEND School - CM1

Location: CM1

Start Date: September 2026

Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Salary: £95-£120 per day (depending on experience)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Learning Support Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in CM1 from September. This role involves supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), communication difficulties, sensory needs, and challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping students access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual targets in a safe and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
  • Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and personal development.
  • Assist with behaviour management strategies and sensory interventions.
  • Support pupils with personal care requirements where necessary.
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver tailored learning programmes.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and achievements.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or adults with complex needs, SEND, autism, learning disabilities, or challenging behaviour.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in a challenging environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

Mandatory Compliance

  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive behaviour management training.
  • Experience in a specialist SEND school, care setting, or supported living environment.
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods.
