We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Childcare Officer to join a welcoming and supportive SEN school in Chelmsford. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs, helping them to thrive both academically and personally.
As a Childcare Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students' day-to-day care, emotional wellbeing, and development within a structured and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality care and support to pupils with special educational needs, including SEMH, ASD, learning difficulties, and complex needs
- Assist students with daily routines, including personal care where required
- Support pupils' social, emotional, and behavioural development
- Work alongside teachers and support staff to ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment
- Assist with managing behaviour in line with school policies
- Encourage independence and confidence in all students
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN or care setting
- A patient, caring, and resilient nature
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and adaptable in a dynamic environment
- Relevant childcare or support qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 in Childcare or Health & Social Care) is desirable but not essential
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
