Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes during the absence of the class teacher
  • Deliver pre-set lesson plans and learning materials provided by teaching staff
  • Maintain good order and discipline in the classroom, following the school's behaviour policy
  • Ensure pupils are engaged in learning activities and complete assigned work
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on pupil progress, behaviour, and any issues arising
  • Support pupils with their learning where appropriate, without teaching new content
  • Manage classroom resources and ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or safeguarding concerns, following school procedures
  • Uphold the ethos, values, and standards of the school at all times

Person Specification

  • Experience working with children or young people (e.g. schools, youth work, coaching, childcare)
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and/or KS2 where required)
  • Confidence supervising classes independently
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately
  • A professional, calm, and adaptable approach
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
