A specialist SEMH school in Burnley is looking for a resilient Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged pupils with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in behaviour support who wants to make a genuine difference to vulnerable young people.

As a Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils who may have SEMH, ADHD, Autism, attachment difficulties, trauma-related needs, and associated behavioural challenges. Rather than simply responding to incidents, you will help pupils understand the emotions and triggers behind their behaviour. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will:

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 behaviour interventions and mentoring
  • Recognise early signs of dysregulation and intervene appropriately
  • Use established de-escalation and behaviour management techniques
  • Help pupils identify triggers and develop positive coping strategies
  • Maintain consistent expectations and clear boundaries
  • Support pupils to reflect following incidents and successfully return to learning
  • Build strong relationships that encourage trust, confidence, and accountability

The successful Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant will understand that effective behaviour support requires both authority and empathy. You will provide consistency while helping pupils develop the emotional regulation and resilience needed to make lasting progress.

What's on Offer:

  • Up to Β£600 per week
  • Full-time, long-term position
  • September start
  • Extensive behaviour management and SEMH training
  • Experience supporting complex behavioural and emotional needs
  • Support from experienced SEN and pastoral professionals
  • Excellent preparation for careers in Psychology, Youth Justice, Social Work, Mental Health, Counselling, or SEN Education
