Functional Skills Tutor - English and Maths

At Prospero Teaching, we partner with Local Councils, schools and SEND teams through the UK.

We aim to help young people who are not currently accessing full time education to be paired with tutors in either 1 on 1 or small group settings, to provide the students access to the best tailor-made plans that will help them achieve their full potential.

We pride ourselves on building a community of dedicated tutors , who are motivated to deliver the highest quality education to students.

We currently have a high demand for functional skills tutors in Blythe who can support children who are not currently accessing full time education due to Permanent or temporary exclusion, in their functional skills - Maths and English.

These students require a patient and adaptable approach to tutoring that will help them overcome their barriers to learning.

Position Details

  • Pay rate up to GBP30 per hour depending on qualification and/or experience
  • Up to 15 hours per week per student
  • Start date: September 2026
  • Location: Blythe
  • Duration: ongoing
  • Access to our Resource Hub, which includes learning materials
  • Access to CPD accredited courses and training

Your role with us

  • Deliver one-to-one tuition in Functional Skills Maths and/or English
  • Develop and implement personalised lesson plans that address individual learning gaps.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular, constructive feedback to students and their families.
  • Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to help students re-build their confidence in learning.
  • Complete daily attendance and weekly reports.
  • To be eligible for this role, the potential Functional Skills Tutors must:
  • Previous experience with functional skills, specifically English and Maths.
  • Available to Travel to Blythe, Northumberland, on a regular basis.
  • Hold the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
