A specialist SEMH school in Blackburn is recruiting a Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant to work with secondary-aged pupils who require targeted behavioural and emotional support. The school is looking for someone who can become a consistent, trusted adult while maintaining the clear expectations and boundaries pupils need to succeed.

The Role - Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant

As a Behaviour Intervention Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with needs including SEMH, ADHD, Autism, attachment difficulties, trauma, emotional dysregulation, and associated behavioural challenges. You will work alongside teaching and pastoral teams to understand the individual factors behind behaviour and provide appropriate interventions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 behaviour interventions and mentoring
  • Identifying triggers and early signs of emotional dysregulation
  • Using effective de-escalation strategies during challenging situations
  • Supporting pupils to develop emotional regulation and coping techniques
  • Reinforcing positive behaviour, routines, and clear boundaries
  • Helping pupils reflect following incidents and re-engage with learning
  • Building relationships based on trust, consistency, and mutual respect

The aim is not simply to manage behaviour. You will help young people develop the self-awareness, resilience, and emotional skills needed to make sustainable progress both within education and beyond school.
