Prospero Teaching is working with a secondary school in the Basingstoke area to recruit an experienced and driven Head of PE (QTS) for a September start. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated PE specialist to take the lead of a successful department and play a key role in shaping both curriculum delivery and student outcomes.

You will combine teaching with leadership responsibilities, overseeing the delivery of Physical Education across KS3 and KS4 while supporting staff development and driving high standards of teaching and learning. This role is ideal for an ambitious teacher ready to step into leadership or an experienced Head of Department looking for a new challenge.

The Role:

  • Lead and manage the PE department
  • Deliver high-quality PE lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Plan, monitor, and evaluate the PE curriculum
  • Support and develop colleagues within the department
  • Promote participation and engagement in sport and physical activity
  • Organise extracurricular activities and school sports events
  • Track student progress and implement strategies to raise attainment
  • Maintain high behaviour expectations and a positive learning environment
  • Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently

Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong subject knowledge in Physical Education
  • Experience teaching PE at secondary level
  • Previous leadership or middle leadership experience desirable
  • Confident managing a department and supporting staff
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Passionate about sport, physical activity, and student development
  • Committed to high standards and continuous improvement

Contract Details:

  • Position: Head of PE (QTS)
  • Location: Basingstoke
  • Start Date: September
  • Working Pattern: Full-time
  • Pay Rate: £32,916 - £51,047 per annum
  • Key Stages: KS3-KS4

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

  • QTS required
  • Secondary PE teaching experience essential
  • Leadership experience beneficial
  • Safeguarding training can be provided
