About the Role
Prospero Teaching is seeking a qualified Core Subjects Outreach Tutor to provide high-quality, personalised 1:1 tuition in English, Maths and/or Science to young people across Barking and Dagenham who are currently not attending mainstream education. This role involves delivering bespoke education packages to pupils with varied needs, including those who may have experienced extended periods out of education. You will play a key role in rebuilding confidence, re-engaging learners, and supporting both academic progress and personal development. This opportunity is ideal for qualified teachers or tutors who are looking for flexible, part-time work and who want to make a meaningful difference outside the traditional classroom setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver tailored 1:1 lessons in core subjects
- Assess pupils' academic levels and adapt learning accordingly
- Re-engage learners and support their confidence and motivation
- Provide structure, routine and positive learning experiences
- Work closely with Prospero Teaching to track progress and outcomes
Contract & Working Details
- Location: Barking and Dagenham
- Position: Outreach Tutor (Core Subjects)
- Hours: 10-15 hours per week
- Session length: 1-3 hours per session
- Start date: ASAP
- Contract type: Temporary
- Pay rate: From £25 per hour, depending on experience
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS, QTLS, PGCE, EYFS or equivalent)
- Minimum 6 months' experience working in a UK school or similar setting
- Experience teaching English, Maths and/or Science
- Up-to-date safeguarding training (desirable, not essential)
- Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with pupils
Eligibility Criteria
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced DBS on the child barred list (or be willing to apply)
- Provide two professional, child-related references covering the last two years
