Job description

Prospero Teaching is seeking a compassionate and flexible Learning Mentor to support students within a specialist alternative provision at a secondary school in Southsea. This full-time role offers a rewarding opportunity to work closely with KS3 and KS4 learners who thrive in a personalised and nurturing educational setting.

This position is offered on a full-time basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent role.

About the Role

As an Alternative Provision Learning Mentor, you’ll play a vital role in helping young people re-engage with education. Working alongside teaching staff, you’ll support the delivery of functional English, Maths, and Science, while fostering emotional well-being, resilience, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the delivery of functional skills lessons in English, Maths, and Science for KS3/KS4 students

  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment

  • Providing tailored support for students with SEMH, autism, ADHD, and other additional needs

  • Collaborating with teachers, support staff, families, and external agencies

  • Monitoring student progress and contributing to individual learning plans

  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Encouraging confidence, independence, and self-esteem

  • Enhanced child barred list DBS certificate (or willingness to apply)
