Prospero Teaching is recruiting for a hair, beauty and hospitality Teacher to join an expanding alternative provision, working with secondary to post-16 students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. This is a teaching role focused on delivering a practical, hands-on vocational curriculum to small groups of learners who may have experienced disruption to their education.
The provision offers a structured, supportive environment where consistency, relationships, and clear routes into employment are paramount. Students are supported to re-engage with learning, develop practical skills, and work towards City & Guilds/ Functional skills qualifications (Entry Level 3-Level 2). Teaching takes place in groups of up to six learners, with a strong focus on vocational learning, confidence-building, and employability skills.
You will deliver engaging sessions across a range of trades including braiding hair, hair extensions, hair dying, hair styling, hospitality, and make-up artistry. A calm, flexible, and resilient approach is essential, alongside effective behaviour management using trauma-informed strategies. The role also involves supporting students' pastoral needs, working closely with support staff, contributing to EHCP targets, and maintaining a safe, well-organised workshop environment with high standards of health and safety.
CONTRACT DETAILS:
- Position: Vocations Teacher (Hair, Beauty & Hospitality)
- Setting: Alternative / Specialist Provision
- Start date: October 2026 (possibly sooner)
- Duration / Likely Duration: Long-term
- Contract type: Temp-to-Perm
- Full time/part time: Full-Time
- Pay: From GBP148.39- 205.12 per day (depending on experience and quals)
- Working hours: 08.30am-16.00pm
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with young people with SEND/SEMH needs
- Strong behaviour management and deskills
- Practical experience in hair, beauty, and hotel trades
- Ability to deliver engaging small-group sessions
- Confidence leading sessions alongside and directing support staff
Desirable:
- Teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent)
- Experience delivering City & Guilds or vocational qualifications
- Assessing / IQA qualifications
- Understanding of trauma-informed school
- Knowledge of Functional Skills & City & Guilds curriculum
- Non-QTS will be considered for this opportunity

- Hold an enhanced Child/ Adult Barred List DBS registered with the update service, or be willing to apply
