SEN Teaching Assistant
Watford, Hertfordshire | Β£100-110 per day, depending on relevant experience
Full-time, long-term temporary; Monday to Friday, term time

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant in Watford to support primary pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This role focuses on helping children with autism and communication needs take part in lessons, build confidence and become more independent. You will work alongside the class teacher and SENCO, following individual support plans and adapting your approach to each pupil.
Your responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support with classroom activities and transitions.
- Use visual timetables, clear instructions and practical resources to make learning accessible.
- Reinforce early literacy, numeracy and communication skills through teacher-led activities.
- Support emotional regulation and sensory needs using agreed strategies.
- Record progress towards Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes and share observations with staff.
What you will need
- Previous UK teaching assistant or learning support experience.
- Practical experience supporting children with autism or related SEND.
- A calm, consistent approach and the ability to follow individual plans.
A Level 2 or Level 3 teaching assistant qualification, Makaton or Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) experience would be useful, but is not essential.
This position suits someone who enjoys noticing small steps forward and helping pupils do more for themselves.
