Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? We are delighted to be working in partnership with a highly regarded SEN school in Southampton, rated Good by Ofsted, to recruit a Primary Teaching Assistant (SEMH) to join their dedicated team.

About the Role:

In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting pupils with SEMH needs in a nurturing and structured primary setting. You\’ll help build positive relationships with learners, encouraging emotional regulation, engagement, and self-confidence, while working collaboratively with experienced educators and support staff.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be:

  • Supportive, patient, and calm under pressure

  • Able to build trust and communicate effectively with young learners

  • Positive, approachable, and able to adapt to individual needs

  • A genuine team player, open to learning and development opportunities

  • Experienced in supporting children with autism or social communication needs (desirable)

  • Familiar with behaviour management strategies and personalised support techniques

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children, particularly those with SEN/SEMH needs (preferred)

  • Understanding of autism, SEMH, and social communication difficulties

  • A proactive and empathetic approach to support

  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)

  • Legal right to work in the UK

  • Two recent, child-related references
