The Role
The Head of Legislative Reform will sit in the Policy Implementation team, reporting to Alexader Gray. This role is an opportunity to drive one of the Institute’s highest priorities: the preparation of a comprehensive programme of legislative reform.
This role will be pivotal to the future of the Institute as it continues to establish its position as the leading conservative think tank in the United Kingdom.
The Job Description
The role will be responsible for our legislative drafting programme, including the necessary step of drafting instructions for counsel on the basis of the research done by the team. Reporting to the Director of Strategy/Governance/Implementation, you will be responsible for the day-to-day progress of the legislative reform agenda at the think tank. This will include:
· Prepare a programme of workshops focused on making the ideas of the policy team a reality. This will involve researching the problems, and identifying and convening mission-aligned people of the highest calibre to attend these workshops.
· Work with legal counsel to turn the policy proposals generated by the workshops into legal text.
· Assist with the collation and preparation of legislative reform papers.
· Prepare detailed and persuasive briefings on the laws which need reform or repeal in different sectors of British society, which can be sent to political figures, including MPs, Peers, activists and journalists.
· Work with others at the Institute to identify how preferred policy solutions can be put into legislation and political action, including colleagues working on government reform.
· Follow closely the passage of legislation in Parliament, identifying opportunities for both long-term and short-term work, including potential amendments.
· Build compelling, high quality and motivated political coalitions.
· Other ad hoc assistance and research.

- A strong academic Background and legal experience
- Demonstrable experience in political or public life and engagement with political, constitutional, and legal matters.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Discretion and ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
- Exceptional organisational and time management abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to multitask and prioritise workload effectively.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
