The Role

As Residential Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the leadership, management and development of the children’s home, ensuring safe, effective and therapeutic care that promotes their welfare, wellbeing and long‑term outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management
    • Provide strong, values‑led leadership to the staff team, promoting a positive, child‑centred culture.
    • Ensure the home consistently meets the requirements of the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
    • Lead, supervise and develop the staff team through regular supervision, appraisals and reflective practice.
    • Ensure effective staff deployment, rota management and safe staffing levels.
    • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating therapeutic, trauma‑informed and relational practice.
  • Safeguarding and Quality of Care
    • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the home.
    • Ensure robust safeguarding systems, policies and practices are implemented and understood by all staff.
    • Promote a culture of curiosity, reflection and learning to continually improve care quality.
    • Ensure behaviour support strategies are therapeutic, proportionate and focused on positive outcomes.
    • Monitor and review incidents, safeguarding concerns and complaints, ensuring appropriate action and learning.
  • Care Planning and Outcomes
    • Ensure high‑quality, child‑centred care planning that reflects children’s needs, wishes and feelings.
    • Monitor children’s progress and outcomes across education, health, emotional wellbeing and independence.
    • Ensure records, audits and reports are accurate, reflective and completed to a high professional standard.
    • Promote meaningful participation of children and young people in decisions about their care.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Ofsted
    • Ensure the home is inspection‑ready at all times.
    • Lead and manage Ofsted inspections, implementing recommendations and action plans effectively.
    • Ensure Regulation 44 visits, internal audits and quality assurance processes are completed and acted upon.
    • Maintain oversight of policies, procedures and practice to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Partnership and Stakeholder Working
    • Develop positive, professional relationships with children, families, placing authorities and partner agencies.
    • Act as the main point of contact for external professionals and commissioners.
    • Represent Prosperity Children’s Services in a professional and values‑led manner.
  • Health, Safety and Environment
    • Ensure the home provides a safe, welcoming and nurturing physical environment.
    • Ensure health and safety requirements are met and risk assessed appropriately.
    • Promote a homely atmosphere where children feel a sense of belonging and stability.

Essential What We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience working in residential children’s care.
  • Experience in a leadership or management role within a regulated setting.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.
  • A therapeutic, trauma‑informed and child‑centred approach to care.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
  • Strong organisational, decision‑making and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Experience leading a home through Ofsted inspection.
  • Experience of quality assurance, audits and service development.
