Job Title: Children’s Residential Support Worker
Location: Rochdale, Greater Manchester
Salary: from £32,064 per annum based on 10 shifts (including sleeps) per month
(A 12 shifts a month option is also available, with pro rata salary)

At Prosperity Children’s Service, we provide care for vulnerable children and young people across the Lancashire and Greater Manchester area. Our children and young people receive support from a small team of incredible Registered Managers and Support Workers who strive to engage, motivate, and instill confidence and life skills aiming for the best possible outcomes for them.
Due to expansion, we now have a few additional vacancies in our new residential homes.
Your key responsibilities as the Residential Support Worker:
We have a few exciting opportunities for Residential Support Workers to join our team within our brand-new, beautifully furnished homes in the Great Manchester area. Our homes within the Greater Manchester are registered to accommodate between 1-4 children aged between 6-18 who have suffered trauma, child sexual exploitation and may be present emotional and behavioural difficulties.
As the Residential Support Worker, you will be working with our Outstanding Managers and will support your team with the overall running of the homes, care team and children in line with OFSTED legislation. You will be assisting in the promotion of good childcare practices in accordance with Prosperity Children’s Service Policies and Procedures. A key component of the role will be day-to-day support of the children in our care including household duties, cooking, shopping, laundry and adhering to safeguarding protocols in the home. The role is to ensure that all children receive appropriate care and education as required in their individualised care plans.
Prosperity Children’s Service is committed to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of all children and young people in our care. All staff have a key role and responsibility in this area.
The successful candidate will:
- Thrive in a team environment and be flexible with the ability to work a Rota pattern.
- Have experience of working with children and young people with challenging behaviours including mental health and behavioural problems
- Be able to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and nights – although flexible working will be considered.
- Work alongside other passionate and inspiring support workers and instil motivation to the young people.
- Be a part of helping children and young people with their personal growth and development.
- Hold experience of looking after children with emotional, behavioural, or mental health conditions, as such you will need to be compassionate, calm, resilient and understand the issues and challenges children face.
- Good communication skills are a must. You may be required to spend lengthy amounts of time with service users therefore the ability to communicate well is essential.
- Good written and verbal skills. This role involves paperwork and liaising with local authorities. Record keeping and report writing as well as verbal reporting is essential.
- The ability to problem-solve, de-escalate, and divert attention.
Essential requirements:
- Full UK Driving License
- You must undertake our Crisis Prevention Institute training. This training provides you with fundamental knowledge about understanding trauma, de-escalation techniques, communication skills and safety interventions, inclusive of restrictive holds. Due to the trauma and past experiences of the children we work with, it can sometimes be difficult for them to regulate their emotions and behaviour, which can require the use of restrictive holds. As part of the role, you will be expected to carry out these safety interventions safely which can be physically demanding for extended periods of time.
