The opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated doctor to join our Radiology department to complement the existing team of 5 musculoskeletal radiologists and 42 consultant radiologists in the wider department as we work to deliver the highest quality, sustainable service for our patients. The department offers a supportive and encouraging environment in which to develop as a professional. This post is offered on a full‑time (10 PA) basis although less than full‑time applications will be considered and additional DCC PA may be offered through negotiation depending on service need.

Main Duties: Duties will be primarily based on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites with expectations of potential on‑site presence at Dewsbury, Pontefract and/or our Community Diagnostic Centre in Wakefield.

A Brief Description of the Post: This post is primarily to complement the existing musculoskeletal radiology team comprising 6 substantive consultant radiologists, one of whom will be absent for 12 months on a career break. The successful candidate will support and enable the team to deliver a sustainable excellent service throughout the year for acute and elective musculoskeletal pathways in the context of increasing demands and service delivery expectations. Prompt vetting, protocolling and reporting of acute musculoskeletal imaging will be a particular priority and the post-holder will be available to offer advice to clinicians, radiologists and radiographers. The post-holder should be competent in musculoskeletal ultrasound and reporting musculoskeletal plain film, CT and MRI examinations. Expertise in image‑guided joint injections would be highly beneficial. The post-holder will join a team of 42 other consultant radiologists who provide a wide range of subspecialist and general radiological services. General radiology diagnostic skills are essential and the post holder is expected to contribute to the departmental general radiology workload, including acute CT. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the general diagnostic on‑call rota, approximately one in 20 weeknights and one in 10 weekends; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working. Acute CT is outsourced overnight and there is a separate non‑vascular intervention rota. Additional subspecialty interests can be accommodated depending on service need.

Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) will be available in accordance with the Trust Framework, with a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service; this may include formal teaching or leadership roles. Networked working arrangements will be considered to provide specialist clinical work not performed at MYTT through agreement with local NHS trusts. Teleradiology is in use and all Consultants are offered access to a home workstation with secure VPN Broadband connection to enable connection to the Trust network for remote reporting. Office space is provided across the trust in a flexible arrangement depending on site presence within an agreed job plan. Pooled secretarial support will be provided.
