Engineering and technology are vital to the UK's future, from driving economic prosperity to tackling climate change and improving our infrastructure and resilience. Yet we need more young people, from all backgrounds, to see the possibilities these careers offer and understand the pathways into them.
EngineeringUK is working to change that.
Through research and evidence, advocacy, partnerships and activities for schools, EngineeringUK works with hundreds of organisations to inspire, inform and enable more young people to progress into engineering and technology.
We are now looking for an accomplished Director of Communications, Insight and Policy to join our Executive Team at an exciting point in our development, as we build on our achievements and begin shaping our next strategic plan.
This is a significant leadership opportunity, bringing together strategic communications, digital innovation, research and evaluation, and policy and public affairs to grow EngineeringUK's reputation, influence and impact.
You will lead our communications strategy, shaping how we tell our story, engage key audiences and position EngineeringUK as a leading voice across engineering, technology, education and skills. A particular priority will be strengthening our digital communications, bringing the expertise and fresh thinking to make the most of emerging technologies, including AI, to extend our reach and impact.
Leading an established and talented multidisciplinary team, you will also provide strategic oversight of our research, evaluation, policy and public affairs work, ensuring our evidence and insight inform compelling communications, impactful activities for schools and meaningful policy influence.
Working closely with the Chief Executive and Executive Team, you will help contribute to organisational strategy and build senior relationships across the sectors and networks central to our mission.
We are looking for someone who brings:
- proven strategic communications leadership, with experience of building reputation, shaping narratives and engaging diverse audiences
- strong digital communications expertise, including digital products, emerging technologies and AI
- established senior leadership experience, with a track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and empowering specialist colleagues
- excellent communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to build senior relationships and represent an organisation externally
- strategic judgement, curiosity and fresh thinking, with the ability to anticipate change and identify new opportunities
- an authentic, collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with high emotional intelligence and the ability to inspire and build trust.
Your experience might have been gained within an industry, charity, education or skills organisation, technology-led business or another environment with a strong communications and digital offer. What matters is your ability to combine proven communications leadership and digital expertise with the strategic breadth and judgement.
