Veterinary Surgeon Rochdale/Littleborough

Set Rota, Same Weekday Off, 1 in 3 Saturday Mornings, Certificate Support

Prospect Health is recruiting for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established and supportive small animal practice working across sites in the Rochdale and Littleborough area.

This is a great opportunity for a Vet who values a predictable working pattern, plenty of clinical variety and the chance to develop their skills within a settled and friendly team.

You’ll enjoy a genuine mix of consulting and surgery, with opportunities to work independently at a smaller branch as well as alongside experienced colleagues at the main surgery.

The Rota

The practice offers a set weekly rota, giving you consistency and making it easier to plan life outside work.

An example week could look like:

  • Monday: 9am - 6pm
  • Tuesday: 8am -7pm
  • Wednesday: Day off
  • Thursday: 8am - 6pm
  • Friday: 9am -6pm
  • Saturday: 9am -12pm on a 1 in 3 rota

You will have a one-hour lunch break each weekday, and your weekday off will remain the same each week.

There is also a shared rota for occasional hospitalised patients or stay-behind duties, although these are described as very infrequent.

The Role

The position will involve working across both the main practice and nearby branch surgeries.

A typical working week could include approximately:

  • One day at a smaller branch practice
  • Three days at the main surgery
  • A combination of consulting, routine surgery and case work-ups
  • Opportunities to work alongside experienced Veterinary Surgeons

At the branch practice, you will generally work sole charge and manage a mixture of consultations and routine surgical procedures.

The site is well equipped with:

  • Dedicated operating theatre
  • Dental facilities
  • Kennels
  • In-house IDEXX laboratory equipment
  • Two consulting rooms

At the larger surgery, several Vets work each day, giving you access to strong clinical support and the opportunity to operate and work up cases alongside more experienced colleagues.

Your rota is likely to include a combination of consulting, lead operating and mixed surgery/consult days, offering plenty of variety throughout the week.

Professional Development

The practice places a strong emphasis on developing its Veterinary Surgeons and supporting individual interests.

You will receive:

  • £1,750 annual CPD budget
  • One week of CPD leave
  • Support to complete a certificate
  • Encouragement to explore areas such as clinical audits
  • Opportunities to develop links with veterinary education
  • Support to continue mentoring veterinary students

If CPD is completed in your own time, there may also be flexibility to use the allocated CPD leave as additional holiday.

Benefits

  • 5 weeks' holiday plus bank holidays
  • £1,750 CPD allowance
  • One week CPD leave
  • Certificate support
  • RCVS membership paid
  • VDS membership paid
  • Professional journal or association membership, such as BSAVA
  • Set weekly rota
  • Same weekday off every week
  • Only 1 in 3 Saturday mornings
  • Very limited hospitalised patient duties
  • Access to a practice vehicle for occasional work-related visits
  • Strong clinical and educational development opportunities
  • The practice also provides occasional home visits, including home euthanasia for established clients where appropriate.

About You

This role would suit a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys a varied first-opinion caseload and wants to continue developing clinically within a supportive environment.

You should be comfortable with:

  • General consultations
  • Routine surgical procedures
  • Working collaboratively within a multi-Vet team
  • Building good relationships with clients

Above all, the practice is keen to welcome someone who wants to become a long-term part of a friendly, experienced and settled veterinary team.
