Local Vets are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a veterinary surgeon to join our progressive, friendly, and supportive team across our two well‑equipped branches in Oldbury and Halesowen. We're proud to have built a collaborative and diverse team of 7 Vets, 4 RVNs, 5 SVNs, and a strong network of support staff. We work in harmony to deliver gold‑standard care to our patients, with a genuine focus on personal development and clinical excellence.
Hours & Rota
Depending on the candidate, I can accommodate 4 or 5 days per week. A normal weekday shift is 9am until 6:30pm (no overtime needed as dedicated OOH team). A Saturday shift is 9am until 5pm, ideally 1 in 4 with a day off in the week in lieu. The split between Oldbury and Halesowen is currently: for Oldbury; occasional holiday cover; permanent base will be Oldbury.
Practice Equipment
- Oldbury: 2 colour Doppler US, digital x‑rays, 2 operating theatres, dental kit, 3 standard consult rooms, 1 emergency consult room, dedicated dog and cat holding. Endoscopes will be added within 2 months. We are happy to invest in equipment for specialist vets.
- Halesowen: well‑equipped site with dedicated orthopaedic suite. Equipment includes referral‑level ultrasound with canine & feline cardiology packages, dental X‑ray, fully equipped orthopaedic theatre, separate feline and canine recovery wards.
Scope of Practice
The split between consulting and surgery depends on the candidate. At Oldbury, we can perform 2 surgeries in a day or 10. Vets generate their own surgeries and book their own slots, with full autonomy. This is an emergency practice; the caseload is fluid.
