The IT Portfolio Manager supports the IS Global Projects Senior Manager and Programme Director in delivering and managing a portfolio of technology projects and initiatives aligned to IS strategic objectives.
Overview
The IT Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of technology initiatives, providing leadership, coordination, and governance across multiple projects. The focus of the role is to ensure delivery is well managed, resources are effectively utilised, and projects remain aligned to business priorities. While experience in applications or products is beneficial, we are equally keen to hear from candidates with strong IT programme or portfolio delivery experience across a range of environments. The role reviews portfolio performance and works closely with the Programme Director to ensure delivery is on track, risks are managed, and value is delivered across the portfolio.
What you’ll do:
- Provides resource requirements for IT projects in line with the IS roadmap.
- Provides leadership, coaching and direction to project teams (project managers and technical SMEs), supporting development through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Works closely with IS teams including Architecture, Data & Digital, Infrastructure and Security to support aligned delivery.
- Applies appropriate delivery frameworks and governance across projects within a PMO environment.
- Plans and coordinates team activity to deliver multiple projects, ensuring workstreams are aligned and integrated.
- Supports planning and scheduling of approved technical changes.
- Leads Project Managers in defining requirements and translating these into structured delivery plans.
- Monitors delivery performance, ensuring projects are delivered to the right quality, on time and within budget.
- Works with 3rd party vendors and partners across delivery, commercials and resourcing.
- Provides regular updates to stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks and issues.
- Leads governance and status meetings in line with the IS operating model.
- Ensures project documentation and reporting are maintained in line with PMO standards.
- Supports business case development and tender activity where required.
- Builds strong stakeholder relationships and ensures effective communication throughout delivery.
- Provides insight to senior leadership on delivery performance and risks.
- Keeps up to date with emerging technologies and delivery approaches.
- Collaborates with teams across the wider business to ensure consistency in governance and standards.
- Occasional travel may be required.
