This role is centred on operations and support, acting as a key escalation point for Linux-related issues and ensuring the stability, performance, and security of critical infrastructure platforms. Location Aberdeen or London preferred (hybrid working), with remote working considered for the right candidate.

- Act as a technical authority for Linux operations, providing governance and guidance on best practice
- Collaborate with wider infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to support business-critical services
- Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles
- Support continuous improvement of monitoring, automation, and operational processes
- Provide mentorship and knowledge sharing within the team
What to bring:
- Strong experience managing enterprise Linux environments, with a focus on Red Hat (RHEL)
- Proven background in operations / BAU support rather than pure project or build work
- Deep understanding of core Linux systems: systemd, kernel and performance tuning, filesystems (local, NFS, CIFS), authentication (SSSD, LDAP, Kerberos, Active Directory integration)
- Experience with patching, package management (yum/dnf) and lifecycle management
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, DHCP)
- Scripting capability (e.g. Bash, Python) for automation and operational efficiency
- Familiarity with virtualised environments (VMware or similar)
- Experience working with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Zabbix, Splunk, or similar)
- Strong knowledge of Linux security practices (SELinux, SSH hardening, certificates, etc.)
- Experience working within an ITIL-based support environment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset
- Ability to work in fast-paced, enterprise environments with competing priorities
- Confident communicator, capable of working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proactive, self-sufficient, and committed to continuous learning
Nice to have:
- Exposure to containerisation and Kubernetes in an enterprise setting
- Experience supporting or working alongside SAP environments
- Familiarity with Red Hat Satellite or similar management tools
- Awareness of cloud-based infrastructure (Azure, AWS)
